Serum inorganic phosphate is only a very minor percentage of total body phosphorus. Low level of inorganic phosphorus in blood states a presence of Hypophosphatemia.

Causes of Hypophosphatemia are abnormalities in vitamin D metabolism, renal loss, GI or cellular shift
